PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
Hello everyone, LoriBeth here.
This has been a hard month for me in terms of CyberStitchers -
the loss of Helen Cademy came as a shock and a sorrow. I
know I speak for myself and others when I say that she will be
missed and it will be hard to fill her role as Parliamentarian
and By-Laws Committee Chairman.
CyberStitchers is continuing to gain new members and work
toward getting a website that will best meet our needs.
We are in the process of obtaining Chapter pins and the
membership will be voting on that issue at the September
meeting.
There are areas that we need help from the membership:
we need a Publicity Chairman and continue to need volunteers
for all of the committees to help the Chairmen work toward
fulfilling goals for each committee. If anyone wants to
volunteer for any of the committees or take a chance at being
Publicity Chairman, please contact myself or any of the
CyberStitchers Board members.
The National Meeting will be held in November at the
National Seminar and we will be needing a chapter member to
represent us at that meeting. If anyone is going to National
Seminar and would like to represent us at the board meeting,
please contact me or any of the other CyberStitchers Board
members.
The November meeting of CyberStitchers will have a
show-and-tell aspect to it for everyone to show off their
Purple and Yellow Challenge pieces, as well as their Bookmarks
for Literacy.
Hope everyone had a good summer and I look forward to a
wonderful autumn and continued growth of our chapter and
resources.
LoriBeth Etengoff

Cathy Miller from Illinois submitted three entries in the Rockome Gardens
National Counted Cross Stitch Show. This show is held in
Arcola, IL, in June of each year.
Cathy was entered in the “Professional Stitching” category as
she stitches models for Lesa Steele Designs. Her entries
were:
- "Peacock Sampler Photo Journal" by CA’s Eclectic Collection
- "Fairy Dreams" by Lavender and Lace (This entry won a third place ribbon)
- "My Stitching Chari Necessaire" by Hillside Sampling (This entry won a second place ribbon)
Congratulations Cathy. Keep up the good work. |

Websites: |
Hoffman Distributing Co. is the largest supplier of cross-stitch designs and books in the industry. The only drawback is that they do not sell to the general public. Hoffman can be found athttp://www.hoffmandis.com. Go to the site and make a list of the publications that you would like to purchase. Take this list to your local needlework store or the mail order supplier that you usually
purchase from and ask them to order the books for you.
If you have problems getting someone to submit an order to
Hoffman, visit
http://www.Justneedlin.com (or call 816-246-5102).
There is a link at the Just Needlin website to contact them by
e-mail. Just Needlin is located in Lee Summit, MO, and
they state that they receive a shipment from Hoffman every
week, so you wouldn’t have a long wait for your order.
(Just Needlin was recommended by Kathy Coret.)
For quilting fans, “Simply Quilts” on Home and Garden
Television (HGTV) recently had Jan Davis, a current NASA
astronaut and a quilter, as a guest on the show. Jan
demonstrated making a paper cut appliqué pattern called
"Shuttle to the Stars." This pattern was a tribute to her
travels through space. As a treat for viewers, the pattern can
be obtained from the HGTV website http://www.hgtv.com, click on Crafts & Collectibles, and search for Episode:
QLT-552. The pattern can be printed from the website.
Looking for beads and beading supplies?
Check out:
Are you a knitter and need a source for yarn, knitting machines, books, buttons, etc? Knitcraft Yarn Shop is located at 215 N. Main St, Independence, MO. (1-816-461-1248). I found this store this summer during a trip to Independence. It was interesting, since I’m not a knitter, but they also had needlepoint items. I don’t have an e-mail address.

EGA will donate the proceeds from the purchase of the stitch graph "Charmed
Heart" to The American Heart Association for Women’s Heart Health Research. If you have not seen this pattern, go to http://www.egausa.org and check it out. The cost of the stitch graph is $10.00. Almost 1,800 orders for this pattern have been processed by EGA. There will be a new pattern offered after the first of the year, with proceeds
also going to the American Heart Association.
Our President, LoriBeth, is giving our members a stitch graph called "Rainbow Balloons" ©2000-2002. It was designed by LoriBeth for LoriBeth’s Best NeedleArts. The colors can be of the stitchers choice.

"Ornaments of the United States" -- This is a continuing series in Needlepoint Now. Florida and Georgia are featured in the May/June 2002 issue, along with a correction for the placement of Delaware. Illinois, Idaho, and Indiana are featured in the July/August 2002 issue.
On page 39 (back cover) of the July/August 2002 issue of Needlepoint Now there is an article on a finishing technique that can be used with the state ornaments. The technique featured in this month’s article could also be used for finishing other items. This column, titled "The Finishing Touch" will become a regular feature of the magazine.

Dee in Nevada nominated Stitch in Time, in Reno, Nevada, as her favorite needlework shop. She said that she feels very fortunate in having such a wonderful store as her "long-distance" local needlework store (LNS).
Since Dee lives almost 300 miles away from the nearest LNS, all of her supplies must be ordered. She says that Vicki, the shop owner, always goes the extra mile to help with suggestions, selections, special orders, and answering questions. All of the clerks are also friendly and helpful.
Vicki charges only a minimum for postage and handling for sending orders and they are received in a timely fashion as the store is well-stocked with a variety of stitching needs - making a special order rarely necessary. Next-day shipping is available.
Stitch in Time is open for classes and Vicki holds a stitching retreat once a year. Reservations for the retreat are sold out far in advance.
